Over a year ago Xy hurt her knee while practicing with the Big Easy Roller Girls. It’s bothered her ever since, and so yesterday morning we rose early and dropped her off for a little surgery. Persephone and I went home and made a “Get Well Soon” poster for her mother. The surgeon called me [...]

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mythoto/ / CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 As previously noted: I sprained my ankle a couple years ago. In December I broke a toe. Also, something seems to be wrong with my heel. This is all on the same foot, the left one. On Mardi Gras, a pit bull sunk his teeth into my calf. I can [...]

My right knee, which I twisted in December, is getting better every day. I had been favoring it, limping, and generally trying to stay off of it. Seems that was the wrong approach, as my sister pointed out to me. It just got stiffer and weaker. So I’ve been trying to walk normally, and it [...]

My knee two weeks ago: My knee one week ago (note tertiary scab): My knee today: I would say it’s now fully healed. So that took eight weeks.

My knee last Tuesday: My knee on Saturday: My knee today: I’d thought it would be completely healed by now, but it’s not, quite.

I know the world is wondering about my knee. Here’s what it looked like on Tuesday: And Thursday: And today: As you can see, a second scab has formed over the area that was not quite ready to let go of the first scab.

On Saturday, what with some early morning bed-wrestling and climbing around on a ladder, I managed to bang my knee a few times, and it leaked a little blood. By Sunday morning the scab had popped halfway off. But not all the way! It jutted out from my knee at an absurd angle, flapping like [...]

I went running today for the first time since I scraped myself up. My knee was a little stiff, but not too bad. All my other scabs have fallen off, except the one on my elbow, and it’s ready to go at any moment. The big one on my knee is starting to pull away [...]

The scab is slowly shrinking. No flakage yet.

It’s looking more and more like a piece of beef jerky. I predict serious flakage to begin in the next 48 hours.

It’s hard and crusty. Here’s a close-up especially for my friend Bill:

It’s getting a little itchy from time to time. I’ve noticed the scab changes color when I bathe. It turns almost white. This is the seventh day of healing. It really doesn’t look much different than it did two days ago. I assume the interesting stuff is going on underneath the scab now. Xy and [...]

The scab’s much better established now. On Thursday the scab was still forming. It oozed and changed colors all day, and got sorer and sorer. By the time I got home I was running a slight fever. Now it’s much less tender. It hurts only when I stand up for a long time.

The wound on my knee is now completely scabbed over. It is sore as a motherfucker, especially around the edges where the skin that’s left has turned pink.

Wiped out just as I started my morning jog — tripped over an uneven sidewalk and went down hard. That’s my knee. Actually it’s not as bad as it might appear to be. Xy thought it looked fake, like a veggie bacon strip. My other knee and my elbow and hands are a little raw, [...]
