Toma

A reader who wishes to be known only as M.A.D. says...

Enough said. Toma is an actor. He has a script, a character, and an income based on telling a certain segment of our society exactly what it wants to hear (do I smell Rush Limbaugh?).

Toma says, "When you drink a beer or a whiskey or any booze, your body gets rid of the alcohol in a matter of hours. " However, it's during those hours that the whiskey is in a redneck's bloodstream that he beats his wife and children. You seldom if ever hear of a pot smoker doing bong hits and then trailer-park slapping his ex-wife around.

My parents have worked within the judicial system for decades and will tell you that alcohol is a far more serious threat to society than pot. Most domestic violence cases smell of alcohol.

Toma is an idiot.

Toma is dumber than hell. He was a cop, for crying out loud. Letting cops dictate moral stances is like letting lawyers dictate the law. Toma's experience with durgs is as a cop; it's a bullcrap place to observe people from. I don't even believe the bastard. He gets paid to say those things. And your dad is forking out the cash to hear what he wants to hear.

Tell your pop I said so.

And that malarkey about pot stinking up ones's brain is, well, malarkey. Who sets the standard that determines "success" and "achievement?" This capitalistic society that is designed to have 15% poverty? Even the damn Pope in 1963, or 62, whatever, in Shea Stadium condemned a society constructed along capitalistic mores such as the one we have whereby a given percentage of people must fail so that others may succeed. Your dad wants us all to be part of the 85% that tramples?

I'm 44 years old and I've got a soon-to-be-15 year old son and if I treated and talked to him the way your dad does you, I'd expect Levi to get the SKS out and blow me away.

And I'd deserve it.

Joe Nickell says...

In response to your dad's journal entry, I'd like to point out a major hole in his (or, rather, Beretta's) argument. There are plenty of substances that we ingest which are fat-soluble. That, of itself, does not make a substance bad or dangerous, necessarily. To conclude from this fact, as your dad and the astute Beretta have, that marijuana is a poison and is bad for you, is ridiculous.

Let's see the evidence that this substance indeed is "playing hell with your brain, your organs, your glands, your reproductive system." As many of us who have looked into this already know, THAT evidence is largely specious indeed.
