Random Grab Bag Roundup

February 17th, 2011 by Editor B

I thought it might be interesting to collect all the stuff that caught my attention on the net today but it proved impossible. There’s just way too much. What follows is only a smattering.

This guy Bryan Fischer’s rhetoric really hit home, but not in a good way:

It caught my attention becasue I just met a woman who was raised on a reservation right here in Louisiana at a group discussion on religion and spirituality this weekend. Her perspective was really fascinating to me, but I think she’d take issue with Bryan Fischer’s statements.

I see the Green Project is showing Mardi Gras: Made in China. Wish I could make it.

The NOLA Green Roots blog is reactivated.

I have to agree with Pat, the gratuitous poisoning of Toomer’s oaks at Auburn University is horrific. No mercy for tree killers! Later: Turns out the prime suspect is a 62-year-old former Texas State Trooper who is now in custody. How very pathetic. Just to be clear, I don’t give a rat’s ass about the football rivalry. I’m outraged and disgusted by the act itself. Of course, people kill trees all the time, but this seems different for some reason. Maybe we should all be more outraged and disgusted by the rampant deforestation of our continent.

I recently discovered an interesting blog called Egregores which has a new post up on the topic of The Old Religion: Getting Beyond the Noise which gets at a very interesting controversy. It’s the first of four planned installments and I look forward to the rest.

The Music Animation Machine is pretty awesome. I discovered this via a music prof here at the University. She’d only just discovered YouTube, and she was watching an animation of Bach’s Tocatta and Fugue.

I tracked down and printed out the full graph shown in the animation, and she was quite happy, and we had a good discussion on the history of YouTube.

Why would a story on potholes in San Diego catch my attention? Check the photo credit.

Potholes

Yup, that’s me. No, I wasn’t in San Diego. I took that photo right here in New Orleans.

My friend in San Diego says,

Apparently the potholes here aren’t as photogenic as yours???
There is no neighborhood that crummy looking, nor that green looking, here, so I suspect a switcheroo.

My friend in the newspaper biz says:

That’s too good.
Toooooo goood.
The newspaper biz continues to suffer from decline … but they gave you a photo credit!
Yeah, baby. We still got scruples.

OK, that’s enough for now. Time for bed.

Ah, Christians. God’s loving people. As you might imagine, Bryan Fischer has lots to say about gays and lesbians too.

I’m with Leigh, that’s one serious New Orleans pothole if it makes news in San Diego.
