Nice look back, B. I'll spare everyone my own but wanted to plus one on the hoppin john yesterday. With all the holiday parties this year my son really wanted to have one, it gave me an excuse to take down all the Christmas decorations and cook a big batch of hoppin john to welcome in the new year.

We invited about 15 families from around the neighborhood and served it along with hard boiled eggs, crepes with bananas and chocolate sauce, bubbly water, and whatever people brought. Tremendous success.

But it first required a phone call to a NOLA friend to get her recipe, the photocopy of which I had lost in the storm. I take for granted the ability to find authentic New Orleans recipes online, sometimes it takes a phone call and an email.

And cleaning up after kids and responsible parents is a breeze! I even had time to prepare some gulf shrimp marinara and angel hair pasta for our dinner. It's a good omen overall for the year, the food alone yesterday brought me that much closer to personal recovery. I even had half an Abita Turbodog. If only I weren't out of Crystal and it were warmer it would have been perfect.

Thanks for the Nicotine Sonnet shoutout too. February is almost upon us, go through those old writings.

A very public happy 2009 for you and yours Editron!
