I live in California and visited the area to help out with Habitat. I fell in love with NOLA. But I noticed immediately the disrespect the police have for people. I was obviously a tourist and asked a police officer a question and she was extremely rude to me. The police hired in the Upper Ninth to block off the streets when President Carter were rude to EVERYONE. I can't imagine how they treat people on a daily basis that live there. If NOLA wants to chance every judge and DA and politician leave. There needs to be a no tolerance policy for misconduct of police officers and task force needs to be put in place that have the peoples back. Maybe then people will trust that the justice system will work. It's so sad because it's such a beautiful City with some of the warmest people I've ever met in my life. The former one offers such hope for a great life in a renewed city for a new generation of New Orleanians that, like your daughter, have been born post-Katrina. Yet the latter post reflects the terrible consequence the community faces now. How can we live in a city where Street Justice has a bigger influence on the people than the police do? It seems like it is esclating everywhere. Does XY have a stun-gun or mace? Yesterday someone was stabbed and killed in btown, and someone was shot to death in Greene county.
