The Hester Report
September 7th, 2006 by Editor BI just got a call from Sandra “18 Wheeler” Hester!
Many New Orleanians have wondered about Sandra’s whereabouts since Katrina. For those outside Orleans Parish, I should explain that Sandra has been one of our most public gadflies, an outspoken critic of the public school system and a star of her own over-the-top public access television show. She ran for School Board back in 2004, but she lost to the incumbent. Beloved by some, reviled by others, she’s been a controversial figure, but she’s always thought-provoking. Not to mention she has a killer sense of humor.
I’m happy to report that Sandra Hester is alive and well and living in Glasgow, Missouri. She is contemplating a “triumphant return” to New Orleans in the second week of October for the New Orleans Film Festival. She wants to be here for the premiere of Vince Morelli’s documentary about the public schools in New Orleans, in which she appears. I probably have the details wrong.
Sandra says she’s been following the situation in New Orleans very closely from afar. It will come as no surprise that she has some ideas about what we should do to rebuild the city. She looks forward to talking with residents.
She also said she’s contemplating a web-based television show to address the Katrina Diaspora.

I miss Ms. Hester, and hope she makes it back soon.

Oh PLEASE come back, Sandra! Public access television is not the same without you.

It’s just not the same without the Hester Report! I may not always agree, but I love you Sandra! YOU are a real New Orleanian! I’d love to meet you when you make your triumphant return.

If you can supply it, do you have any contact information for Ms. Hester? Our online magazine, NOLAFugees.com, is covering the film fest and we’d like to get an interview with her in advance of her return and to help promote the film.

Looking for Sandra Hester. I run the website http://www.NolaKatrinaDVD.com and I have been looking for Sandra Wheeler Hester for about a year now. She is the last person that I have not been able to track down whose order was returned saying bad address unclaimed after Katrina.
I tried to email her a couple times after I got the package back but no luck. If anyone knows her, please have her contact me with the correct address so that I finally get the dvd she ordered to her. My email is on my website.
Thanks,
Doug

Sandra was/is an asset in helping keep NOPS upfront and honest. She is certainly needed in helping
New Orleans in keeping the rebuilding process honest, it would be a hard job, but Sandra would bring the unfair practices out in the open. She would be the one to stop the displacement of generations of native people of our city and stop this all white, smaller footprint crap.
Thanks panhead for the website, I was wondering where she was. I will try to contact her, so we can start our crusade, hopefully we can rid our city of you and your type.

I hope you are okay, Ms. Hester. I posted a comment about you on NOLA.com under the story of Mose Jefferson on his way to court today. Asking all Where in the World is Ms. Hester! I will not clog up your space with too much jargon. Just wanted to know if you were alive and well, and to say everything you said about the crooks on our school board was true all the time. Thanks for all the fighting you did to bring out the truth to us, and to the hard headers who would not listen. Whatever your decision is to come back to New Orleans or not, keep up the spirit to do good and May God continue to bless you and your family. Miss you on TV!

Dear Ms. Hester
Granny, Delores Lebran, is homeless and in dying need of help to save her home off canan street in New Orleans. Granny is heart broken. She has a year of life left. She is 73 years old and owns a home that was flooded in New Orleans.
All her belongings were stolen. Her scraps were in storage and she was charged so much money to store two boxes. Granny lives here and there. She had a fema trailer and feared for her safety when they began catching on fire. Please help granny to find help repairing her home and to return to her homeland. The only homeland she has ever known.
Please Ms. Hester turn up the heat for Granny. She is perishing of a broken heart. All she has to look forward to is your response.

Hello Hester, I hope you and your family is doing well: much better than you were in New Orleans. The city council seat is screaming your name;listen; can you hear it? You know you have the support of the people ,so just say yes. Without out some new faces and a honest and intelligent running mate New Orleans will have a long way to go. Pleeeeease! Your fortitude and due diligence is what out hearts are desiring after the unveililng of countless schemes of corruption and chaos.
Holler if you hear me!!!!

I miss her TV show. The bit she did on what would happen if Michael Jackson went to jail was one of the funniest things I haver ever seen. I hope she returns. If she could control her temper she would be a great help to the new Inspector General.

MS. HESTER, YOU ARE MISSED. NEW ORLEANS IS MISSED. I LONG FOR THE DAY WHEN I WILL RETURN, NO MATTER HOW BATTERED THE CITY IS. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE ABOUT LIFE IN ATLANTA. CRIME IS RUNNING RAMPANT AND CITY OFFICIALS ARE JUST AS CURRUPT IN ATLANTA AS THEY ARE IN NEW ORLEANS. THE DIFFERENCE IS I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE SURROUNDINGS, FOOD, AND PERSONALITIES OF THE NEW ORLEANS CULTURE. I WILL RETURN.

Amazing!…..is all I can add to this list of positive comments made about a person that is so completely negative. The eighteen wheeler does nothing but stir up dust in an attempt to attract attention to herself. She cannot and will not work within the system to effect change - that’s just not what she’s about. After all the dust has settled, you will always find it impossible to identify anything positive that Hester has accomplished - other than getting the attention for herself that she so desperately requires.
