Boogaloo

May 26th, 2006 by Editor B

Somehow over the course of the last month or so, my frame of mind has slipped from tightly-bridled optimism to vague worry, mild stress and general foreboding. Perhaps it’s overextended civic involvement. At first, the fact that my neighborhood organization was planning a festival seemed like a case of misplaced priorities — like unto Nero with the fiddle. But upon second thought, maybe we need a good break just before hurricane season. So come check out the Bayou Boogaloo this weekend.

Are you working the event? If we make it, I’d love to say hi. Of course, I have the advantage: your face is ubiquitous and I’m semi-anonymous.

Maybe. Fellow blogger Michael Homan will be slinging beer from 3-6 pm, so I might join him. But I flatter myself by thinking there are better ways for me to serve the community. I might be roving about with a camera. But if you (or anyone else) should recognize me, by all means step up and say hi.

Don’t you think some of it is about marking time, looking forward to significant dates in the process that, hopefully, will lead to some kind of healing? Moving back, the holidays, Carnival, Mardi Gras, Jazzfest, oops, June 1, the beginning of hurricane season. I think it has a whole lot of folks feeling down. I can certainly understand why it would. I think this is an excellent time for Bayou Boogaloo and I look forward to seeing your pictures.
